Letter to the Editor: Annoyed by the sound of motion-activated sirens in Barhamsville

I am writing about the use of loud, obnoxious, and intrusive motion-activated bird sirens at Gaither Vineyard Winery in Barhamsville that is used as a pest deterrent.

The winery moved into the middle of homes that have been here for 30-plus years. It is extremely ridiculous that New Kent County is allowing this loud, intrusive sound to interrupt longtime residents’ peace in their own homes. The board of supervisors just allows this to happen because of the A-1 agriculture zoning.

I invite you and other members of New Kent to come to my home and listen to what we must listen to daily. I want you to hear if you would enjoy the screeching birds from Jurassic Park at your home nonstop.

Allowing Gaither Vineyard to use this type of pest deterrent needs to stop immediately. The residents on this road should not have to listen to this ever again.
