After a rough couple of weeks, New Kent’s Lady Trojans finally righted the ship on the volleyball court to return to their winning ways.
New Kent defeated the visiting Tabb Lady Tigers 25-21, 25-20, 25-13 in the Oct. 9 Bay Rivers District matchup.
During the first two sets, New Kent and Tabb battled back-and-forth, with the Lady Trojans taking advantage due to better serving and fewer errors. In set three, New Kent showed their return to prominence.
Trailing 9-8, New Kent began orchestrating a strong run. Behind Leah Rounds 13 kills and Carly Sachs 10 kills, a 17-4 run was strung together by the hosts to capture the final frame and the match victory.
After the contest, New Kent Lady Trojans Head Coach Stuart Burnett talked about the difference between the past seasons and the current team.
“In any other year, 11-3 would be very good” he said. “I feel good about this team with girls buying into what we are doing.
“We ran tonight’s lineups differently to make it more defensively,” Burnett added. “If we play well against Jamestown and Grafton, that would be a good omen going into the regional playoffs.
New Kent improves to 11-3 on the season.
