Quinton woman receives 10-month sentence for driving related convictions
A Quinton woman will spend ten months in jail after committing several driving offenses in New Kent County.
Laura Ann White, 41, of the 7500 block of Lakeshore Drive, entered a guilty plea to one count of driving while intoxicated (third or subsequent offense), felony driving while revoked, an amended charge of misdemeanor trespassing (originally breaking and entering), and felony child abuse as part of an agreement reached during Monday morning proceedings in New Kent Circuit Court. One count of felony pickpocketing and misdemeanor damaging a phone line were dropped as part of the deal.
In a summary of evidence provided by New Kent Commonwealth’s Attorney Scott Renick, on May 21, New Kent Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a residence regarding a possible break-in. Upon arriving, they noticed an individual leaving the scene in a vehicle. After noticing the driver of the vehicle, later identified as White, unable to keep control of it, a traffic stop was executed. The officer noticed possible impairment of White and executed a field sobriety test, which resulted in the defendant performing poorly. The officer saw a minor in the backseat of the vehicle, and detained White on suspicion of driving while intoxicated. A background check revealed that White had been found guilty of driving while intoxicated at least twice before, as well as having her license revoked due to those convictions. It was also discovered that White used to live on the property that she trespassed on that led to the original call.
Under the agreement, White received a five-year sentence with four years, two months suspended (10 months to serve) on the DWI (third or subsequent offense) conviction. She received a 12-month sentence with all but 10 days suspended on the felony driving revoked conviction. All five years on the felony child abuse conviction and all 12 months on the misdemeanor trespassing convictions were suspended.
