A Providence Forge man will spend nine months in jail for possessing cocaine in New Kent County.

Jamar Ricardo Hendricks, 42, learned of his period of incarceration as part of Monday morning proceedings in New Kent Circuit Court.

During a Feb. 23 trial, Hendricks entered into a plea agreement to two counts of possession of a Schedule I/II substance with intent to distribute. During that trial, evidence presented by New Kent Commonwealth’s Attorney Scott Renick revealed that on Mar. 5, 2019, Hendricks was the target of a control buy. The defendant met up with a confidential informant at the Pit Stop in Bottoms Bridge and sold the informant a half ounce of cocaine. The substance was confirmed as the drug after a subsequent forensics analysis.

Hendricks received a 10-year sentence with nine years, three months suspended (nine months to serve) on one of the felony convictions. All 10 years on the second possession of a Schedule I/II substance with intent to distribute were suspended. One charge each of selling drugs near a school, felony failure to appear, felony violation of terms of probation, and misdemeanor contempt of court were dropped as part of the agreement.

In other circuit matters:

–Charles Frederick Kirby, 45, of the 900 block of Argona Boulevard, Virginia Beach, entered a guilty plea to one count of possession of a Schedule I/II drug as part of a plea deal.

In a summary of evidence, on Sept. 9, 2025, a New Kent deputy received a call for service as two customers at the Star Express in Quinton appeared intoxicated. The deputy located the individuals parked behind the building, noticing a glass smoking device when looking through the window. One of the individuals in the car, identified as Kirby, was removed from the car. A search of the vehicle discovered more smoking devices and a white powdery substance. The substance was sent to the forensics lab and confirmed to be methamphetamine.

Under the agreement, Kriby received a 10-year sentence with all but two months suspended. He must also pay a fine of $1,500.

During a Jan. 12 trial, Meis admitted that he was driving intoxicated after a deputy pulled him over on Interstate 64. Meis performed poorly on the field sobriety tests, and the officer discovered syringes with a clear substance inside of the defendant’s vehicle. The items were sent to the forensics lab and returned to contain methamphetamine.

Meis received a five-year sentence with four years, nine months suspended (three months to serve) on the possession of a Schedule I/II drug conviction. All 90 days on the misdemeanor driving while intoxicated conviction were suspended.
