After losing their first game of the season by a mere run on the road, New Kent’s Trojans returned home to take on the visiting Bruton Panthers in a Bay Rivers District contest. The hosts were quick to rectify their downfall from their previous contest.

New Kent thrashed Bruton 16-1 to return to the win column on Apr. 15.

Bruton got on the board in the top of the first with Owen Lienard’s single drove home teammate Wyatt Marquart. But that run would only lead to a temporary celebration and lead for the visiting Panthers.

New Kent’s bats became explosive in the bottom of the first frame. The Trojans reeled off 11 runs, with the highlight being Keegan Branch’s three-run homer.

Meanwhile, Trojan pitcher Dylan Bowman settled down on the mound. He compiled four strikeouts in four innings of work, with teammate Tucker Powell coming in for relief and pitching two more scoreless innings. Meanwhile, the Trojans added four more runs in the third, and one more in the fourth.

New Kent improves to 7-1 on the season.
