In Charles City’s Lady Panthers first loss of the season, Head Coach Lucas Jones said their youthfulness came into play. But a visit from another young team in the visiting King & Queen Lady Tigers on Apr. 16 was something needed to heal the wounds of their first setback.

Charles City coasted to a 24-1 victory over King & Queen to return to the win column in the Tidewater District affair.

Charles City jumped out to an 11-0 start after the first inning. In the second inning, Eryn Brown’s base hit into the outfield drove in Niajah Jones and also bring herself in for an inside-the-park home run. In the bottom of the third, Naomi Haskins single added another run, while the bottom of the fourth frame saw Kennedi Adkins have an inside-the-park home run of her own as the Lady Panthers team jumped up to 22-1.

Meanwhile, Logan Jones and Adkins commanded the mound for the home team, adding 10 strikeouts in the contest. The Lady Panther defense only surrendered a mere run as the team conquered another foe.

After the game, Jones spoke about the team learning from their previous encounter and the current season’s objective.

“In the Mathews game, our youth came into play,” he commented. “In this game today, it was a good reaction to bounce back.

“Our goal is to make our playoffs,” Jones continued. “Our youth is going to hinder us when we don’t get the experience. When we start to get that experience, we will start rolling. The future is bright, but we want to win now.”

Charles City improves to 5-1 on the season.
