New Kent’s Lady Trojans’ softball team saw their Senior Day spoiled by the visiting Jamestown Lady Eagles.
The Lady Trojans fell 3-2 in the Bay Rivers District finale.
The game was a total different vibe in comparison to New Kent’s earlier 19-4 victory over Jamestown. Despite New Kent taking an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first, miscues by the hosts began to plague them.
Jamestown took advantage of the basepaths, slowly grinding out a 3-2 lead as New Kent came up to bat in the bottom of the seventh. But a lack of offense proved to be the downfall of the Lady Trojans, as they failed to push across any more runs in the contest.
After the contest, New Kent Head Coach Maria Bates commented that the game didn’t bother her too much as she knew her team was still facing prime competition.
“Jamestown is a good team with the best pitcher in the district,” she said. “We have to use this game as fuel and focus on the playoffs.
“We have to have that failure-recovery and being battle-tested in these close games going into the playoffs will help us make a run,” Bates concluded.
New Kent’s Lady Trojans finishes the regular season with a record of 15-6.
