New Kent boys’ finish as runners-up at Region 3A Track & Field Championships

New Kent’s boys’ track and field team finished as the Region 3A runners-up following a two-day meet held at Lakeland High School from May 29-30.

The Trojans continued their dominance in the pole vault, sweeping the top three spots as Mason Schalasny won the event with a clearance of 12’0”, followed by Liam Holloway earning silver with a height of 11’6”, and Landon Evans placing third with a mark of 10’0”.

New Kent also produced several regional champions at the competition. Carter Henning won the 800-meter run with a time of 2:03.45, Carlos Young captured the 300-meter hurdles by clocking a time of 42.09, and Sean Moore captured gold in the shot put with a toss of 41’6”.

New Kent’s boys’ team scored 115 points to finish as the Region 3 runners-up. Tabb won the regional championship with 160 points, with Heritage of Newport News finishing in third with 94 points.

For the Lady Trojans, a trio of silver medalists powered them to place third in regional competition.

Audrey Hudson (1600- 5:48.04), Andrea Dallaire (3200- 12:27.84), and Amiya Armstead (Discus- 91’5”) all earned second place finishes in their respective events at the meet.

New Kent’s Lady Trojans scored 85 points to finish third at the regional meet. Bay Rivers District rival Tabb won the championship with 184.5 points, with I.C. Norcom earning silver with 108.5 points.
