New Kent High School’s baseball team began their quest for a state championship in dominating fashion.

The Trojans piled on 20 runs as they coasted to a 20-0 victory over the Heritage Hurricanes in the Region 3A quarterfinal round held on May 29.

New Kent seized control in the opening inning as pitcher Dylan Bowman fanned all three batters in the first inning. Meanwhile, in the bottom of the inning, Jaxon Foreman started the offensive onslaught with his two-run RBI single. The Trojans added three more in the inning before the Hurricanes were able to get out of the frame.

But that relief was temporary as New Kent’s offense did not hold back, as 15 more runs crossed home plate over the next four innings, eventually triggering the mercy rule and pushing the Trojans through to the regional semifinals.
