Lady Trojans pitch shutout in Region 3A soccer semifinals

New Kent’s Lady Trojans’ soccer team completed a shutout on the pitch to earn a shot at the regional championship.

The Lady Trojans defeated the visiting Colonial Heights Lady Colonials 4-0 in the June 2 Region 3A semifinals. Along with the appearance in the championship game an automatic berth comes with it for the Class 3A state tournament.

New Kent started scoring less than five minutes into the game as Riley Norman found the back of the net. The Lady Trojans’ defense allowed them to keep the pressure on Colonial Heights, minimizing the visitors’ shot attempts. New Kent’s second goal came at the 26:50 mark of the first half as Carlotta Kaiser punched in a score.

In the second half, leading scorer Gretchen Smith took over the duties. Her first goal game just over five minutes into the second half, and her final goal came with 6:05 remaining as it found the top left corner of the net.
