Floyd Hugo Miles Sr.

Floyd Hugo Miles, Sr., of Charles City, VA, departed this life on Saturday, August 8, 2026. Floyd graduated from Ruthville High School in June 1967 and soon thereafter began his college career at Virginia Union University where he received his bachelor’s degree in business administration. He completed a 30+ year career at Philip Morris USA where he held various jobs of increasing responsibility. He retired in 1996 from Phillip Moris USA.
At a young age, he joined Elam Baptist Church. He later joined Little Elam Baptist Church where he sang in the choir, served as a Deacon as well as a member of the different organizations inside of Little Elam Baptist Church. Floyd worked tirelessly in the local and extended communities, having served as a member and Chairman of the Board of Supervisors of Charles City County Virginia for over 21 combined years. He also held a seat in the Virginia House of Delegates Member District 74. Also serving on many other boards and capacities such as Golden Heritage Member of Charles City County NAACP; Charles City County Civic League, American Legion Post #61, Charles City Progressive Lodge #297 Free and Accepted Masons, Ruthville High School Alumni Association and the Charles City Center for Local History Advisory Commission. He also has served as Moderator of the Dover Baptist Association, member of the Board of Trustees, Dover Association and member of the Virginia Baptist Historical Society. He served as a member and Chief of the Charles City Vol. Fire Department.
Floyd is survived by his wife of 55 years, Clem Elizabeth Wallace Miles; four children – Sean T. Miles (Karen), Jonathan D. Miles (Stormie), Michael A. Miles (Lili), and Sara Whitehead; a daughter-in-love – Denise Miles; eleven grandchildren – Breshai’ and Argenai’ Miles, Steven Jr., Rashad, and Taequan Williams; Kay-Kay, Jayden and Mason Miles; and Landon and Logan Miles, along with many dear relatives and friends.
A funeral service for Mr. Miles will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 15, 2026, at the Charles City High School Auditorium, located at 10039 Courthouse Road, Charles City, VA 23030.
Mr. Miles’ remains will lie in state on Thursday, August 13, 2026, from 2:00–4:00 p.m. at the Charles City Government Administration Building, 10900 Courthouse Road, Charles City, VA. During this time, the public is invited to pay their respects and sign the guestbook.
Visitation will be held on Friday, August 14, 2026, from 2:00–4:00 p.m. and again from 6:00–8:00 p.m. at the Charles City High School Auditorium. The evening visitation will include an opportunity for family, friends, and community members to share open-mic expressions and personal tributes. Tributes may be posted at www.vincentfh.com.
