Rob Tyler has been elected as Charles City County’s first at-large Board of Supervisors’ member.

Tyler defeated Jackie Stewart in the battle for the newly created position. Tyler garnered a total of 1,949 votes, while Stewart totaled 1,186.

The newly created position was the result of a referendum passed in April for the creation of the at-large supervisor position as many citizens have expressed disgust with the handling of local government dealings. The newly created position will represent the entire county of Charles City, in comparison to the current format that sees one supervisor for each of the three districts.

In other Charles City votes, Mark Warner was favored over Bert Mizusawa in the contest for the United States Senate, and Jennifer McClellan garnered more votes than Robert Murray Jr. and Joan Bell in the competition for the United States House of Representatives (4th Seat.)

Charles City saw tightly contesting votes when it came to constitutional amendments. Charles City voters favored Amendment One (Freedom of Reproduction) and Amendment Three (Right to Restore Votes to Felons), but were not in favor of Amendment Two (Right to Marriage).

Approximately 3,374 registered voters out of a possible 5,947 registered voters cast votes, which is a 57 percent turnout to the polls.
