Letter to the editor: Concerned about limbs hanging over highway

By Community Member | July 7, 2014 3:54 pm

There are huge limbs clinging on the bark up to 50 feet above Hopewell Rd. between Tunstall Station and Hopewell Baptist Church. They have been there since the storm on June 26. It’s a blessing nobody has gotten hurt so far.

Why do county officials just point to the state for responsibility? Haven’t county officials been elected to act on behalf of all residents, not just the privileged few living in the right neighborhoods?

No efforts from VDOT’s clean-up crew could be observed. Any dump trucks seen in the area are empty, continuously coming in and leaving just as empty. Trees which had been cut to open the road are resting in ditches, waiting for an accident to happen and making the road narrower. Meeting traffic on this stretch of road is sheer imppossible, especially when pulling a trailer or facing a truck.

Who in the county is in charge to coordinate and communicate these cases to VDOT? Pointing fingers and playing the blame game does not make the road safe.
