Dump truck thief accepts plea deal in Charles City Circuit Court
A man who stole a dump truck and rammed it into a fence has accepted a deal in Charles City Circuit Court.
Terrell Wesley Williams, 21, of the 4500 block of Barnetts Road, Charles City, accepted the terms during Aug. 22 court proceedings. The defendant entered guilty pleas to one count each of grand larceny (grand theft auto) and destruction of property.
In a summary of evidence, Williams admitted that on July 19, 2013, he was behind the wheel of the confiscated truck that slammed into a fence on the property of Waste Management of Virginia. The defendant rammed the stolen vehicle through a fence, causing damage to both. Video surveillance and subsequent information received by Charles City Sheriff’s Office helped identify Williams as the offender.
Under the plea deal, formal sentencing for Williams will be delayed until May 2015. Williams is expected to pay $5,352 in restitution for damages to both the vehicle and fence. If all restitution is paid, the grand larceny charge will be dismissed and the destruction of property will be reduced to a misdemeanor. If the restitution is not paid in full but an effort is being made, both charges will be reduced to misdemeanors.
In an unrelated matter, a Colonial Heights man will serve a mandatory two-year sentence from a June 20 conviction.
Dallas James Anthony, 23, of the 2700 block of Tipton Street, received his formal sentence on one count of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Anthony was arrested last Jan. 12 after conservation officer John Goodwin saw the defendant using a firing range after hours. An investigation revealed that Anthony had previous felonious convictions.
