Two men face illegal drug-related charges following their arrests in connection with separate, unrelated incidents in New Kent County.

Carroll William Lee Brown, 30, of the 6000 block of Lakeside Drive, Quinton, is charged with one count each of possession with intent to distribute marijuana (more than one ounce but less than five pounds) and drug paraphernalia possession.

In the course of serving an arrest warrant on Brown for domestic assault at the suspect’s residence on Sept. 21, Deputy Wyatt Johnston found green plant material and drug paraphernalia inside. Johnston obtained warrants on the drug charges, and Brown surrendered to authorities on Sept. 29. He was taken to Henrico Jail East where bond was set at $2,000 pending a court appearance on Oct. 1.

Deputy Johnston was the arresting office in the other incident, which involved Xavier A. Lassiter, 22, of the 2000 block of Elm St. in Hopewell, who was a passenger inside a vehicle that Johnston stopped for a Sept. 30 traffic violation on Emmaus Church Road (Route 106) near the Mountcastle Road intersection.

Johnston detected the odor of burnt marijuana emanating from inside the vehicle and spotted several bags containing green plant material lying in plain sight inside. Johnston arrested Lassiter on one count each of possession with intent to distribute marijuana (more than one ounce but less than five pounds) and obstruction of justice. The suspect was taken to Jail East where he was being held without bond pending a court hearing on Oct. 1.
