Library volunteer honored for more than 33 years of service

Josephine Pemberton waves a fan to help blow out the 33 candles, one for each year of her voluntary service to Heritage Public Library, during an event that doubled as a 92nd birthday celebration inside the library's New Kent branch on Wednesday. She began her volunteer work the day the library first opened in August 1981 and has since logged close to 5,000 hours of service, mostly on Wednesdays. She is stepping down as a volunteer before the end of the year. More than two dozen well-wishers attended the event.
