Letter to the editor: Speaks on true meaning of holiday feast

Several starving people were invited to a great holiday feast. At this feast the table was full of delicious foods. As the people entered this festive hall they were asked to take their seats at this grand long table. The food was blessed and the guests were served. Everyone at the feast had forks for hands and as they began to eat they discovered they couldn’t bend their arms to put the food in their mouths. Because of this their starvation worsened.

A little girl entered the hall following the sounds of this beautiful music she was hearing. Her eyes widened as she gazed upon the food that was placed on the extra long table. She asked the guests that were seated why weren’t they eating. There was an old man sitting close to where she was standing. He looked up at her with sadness in his eyes and said, “ Our hands are made of forks but our arms can not bend so we will never be able to partake of this special feast”. The little girl looked at the old man and smiled a big beautiful smile. The old man asked, “Why are you smiling at a time such as this?”. She looked down at the old man with such great love and said, “Because I will teach you how to feed one another”. Then she said to them, “When you put food on your forks reach across the table and place the food into the mouth of the person across from you”. Their problem was solved and their period of starvation ended.

…And a child shall lead them. Glory be to God!

What is this parable saying to us today? What lessons is it trying to teach us?
