Polly Allen

Polly Allen, age 76, of New Kent, passed away peacefully at home Sunday, Oct. 28, 2012 after an extended illness.

She was born in Halifax, NC on June 15, 1936. She worked for many years as a daycare provider in Hampton and New Kent where she was fondly known as “Memaw” to the many children she loved and helped to raise. During her retirement years she took special joy in her family, traveling, fishing, working in her flower garden, feeding her birds and enjoying Christmas which was her favorite time of year. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.

Polly is survived by her husband of 59 years James, her three daughters and their husbands Cynthia Swanson, Rene Canady (Michael), Michelle  Bollman (Steve), six grandchildren and their husbands Mary (Trevor), Stephanie (Chris), Brian, Dylan, Crystal (Bill), Race and great-grandchildren Alona, Race Jr. and Zane. She is also survived by her siblings, Charles, David, Joe, Albert, Evelyn, Vivian, Margaret and Faye. She was predeceased by her beloved sister, Ann, and her brothers, Willie and Danny.
