Theme contest on for inaugural Dogwood Classic

Now that “Dogwood Classic” has been decided as the name of the new steeplechase racing and tailgating event at Colonial Downs next April 6 and vehicle rail spaces are being sold at www.dogwoodclassic.com, a theme for the inaugural running is needed.

The “Classic” staff is asking creative minds to put their thinking caps on and come up with a fun, unique and novel theme for the afternoon races that day.

Submissions will be accepted thru Dec. 9 and the top five will go to a vote on richmond.com. The person who submits the winning entry will win a reserved vehicle rail space at the Dogwood Classic. Entries can be submitted via colonialdowns.com, dogwoodclassic.com and richmond.com.

The theme is to be incorporated into the way attendees dress that day, how the tailgate parties are decorated, the food and beverages that are served and devoured, the music played. There will be a tailgate competition that day based on how the tailgate parties carry out the chosen theme.
