Trojans perform well at holiday wrestling tournament

New Kent’s wrestling Trojans earned 64.5 points en route to a 19th place finish in the Conestago Valley Holiday Tournament in Pennsylvania.

The exclusive tournament for top teams along the east coast consisted of 25 teams with some of the top grapplers in the nation.

New Kent’s B.C. LaPrade earned a second-place finish for the Trojans in the 145-pound division. LaPrade defeated Cooper Wills of Mechanicsburg (Pa.), Dawson Comoh of Wilson West Lawn (Pa.), and Tyler Bolton of Exeter Twp. (Pa.) to advance to the finals. LaPrade faced off against the number one wrestler in the nation in Northern York’s Jonathan Ross. Ross needed an amazing effort, outlasting LaPrade in a 7-4 decision.

Trojan 152-pound representative Blake Hohman earned a semi-final appearance and fifth place finish. Hohman topped Ethan Tever of Exeter Twp. (Pa.) and Matt James of Hamburg (Pa.) before falling to bracket winner Jacob Oliver of Huntingdon (Pa.)
