Letter to the Editor: Says public must act to combat synthetic drugs

By Community Member | October 18, 2012 2:45 pm

After reading articles about people arrested for involvement with synthetic drugs, particularly “spice,” I found the need to be involved with coming up with a solution. I am now convinced that we must get involved with helping law enforcement for the safety of our children and families.

Law enforcement officers that I talked with need the community’s help. Please help them by calling them. You can also call Crime Stoppers at 780-1000, and you don’t have to give your name.

New Kent had two stores that were selling spice, however, the owners stopped selling it after the sheriff’s office spoke to them. New Kent is still having a problem with heavy usage of spice. Presently, Gloucester, Middlesex, and York counties have stores that sell synthetic drugs.

Physical symptoms of spice usage could range from anxiety and confusion to unconsciousness and advanced medical treatment in a hospital intensive care unit.

You as a county resident can really help by not buying anything at a seller’s place of business. If they are going to put the dollar bill ahead of the safety of our residents, we cannot allow them to let greed ruin the lives of our loved ones.

In addition, please call or write your county, state, and federal legislators to save our children, your family, our law enforcement officers and our beautiful United States of America.
