A nine-day “Penny Wars” campaign by the SCA at New Kent Elementary School resulted in students raising $1,810.64 for Toys For Tots. Pictured in front (l to r) holding a banner proclaiming the effort are SCA officers Benjamin Ward, Christian Jones, Carly Yates, Avery Bell, and Sarah McGinley. In back are school counselor Rita Carreras, second grade teacher Therese O’Dey, and fourth grade teacher Mary Margaret Gillette, the SCA sponsor. The kindergarten class won the wars by turning in the most pennies. Food Lion (Providence Forge) wrapped the coins at no expense to the SCA.Alan Chamberlain photo
