New Kent Middle School (l to r) Deputy Steve Rula from Kip Kephart Foundation, student winner Sherese Bonner, Sheriff F. W. Howard Jr., and Sammy Fudge (principal).

Each year, the Sheriff F.W. Howard Jr. Citizenship Award sponsored by the Kip Kephart Foundation (kephartfoundation.org) is awarded to a fifth grader in each elementary school and to an eighth grader at the middle school. This gives the students in the lower grades something to strive for. This year the staff at New Kent Elementary School could not decide on just one student so the Kip Kephart Foundation provided funding for two winners. Below are presentations at each school of a certificate plus cash award to student winners. Their names are engraved on a plaque to be displayed in each school.

G. W. Watkins Elementary School (l to r) Deputy Steve Rula from Kip Kephart Foundation, Hector Martinez (father), student winner Christian Martinez, Star Martinez (mother), and Sheriff F. W. Howard Jr.
