NK Historical Society plans new features
New Kent Historical Society’s Executive Board is planning to add new and better initiatives that will move the organization forward as it grows and mark the path for change.
The group is planning to mprove communication with the New Kent public, increase membership, redesign its website to make it more functional, and During the summer months, plan bus tours to historic places such as Tredgar Iron Works, Jamestown, and Museum of the Confederacy.
The biggest change will be converting the historic jail into the New Kent Historical Society Museum and History building. Museum features in the building have been added and one of the jail cells converted into a bookstore.
Society members have developed a number of leaflets, pamphlets and booklets on New Kent history that will be for sale to the public. The bookstore will also feature books from local New Kent authors. For a copy of the publications list, e-mail NKHSemail@gmail.com.
One of the rooms in the historic jail is the new “Pomeroy Records Room” in honor of the most dedicated historian in the county, Jackie Pomeroy.
A new project invlolving county schools will be announced at a later date.in place.
