Letter to the editor: Encourages CC citizens to become more involved
The demographic in Charles City has slowly changed since I was a child, but the population has remained somewhat stagnant. Young county natives are moving away for better conveniences. Also, our scholars find it necessary to take their innovations elsewhere and refuse to settle for the status quo.
Local government has had the challenge of balancing economic development with tranquility. This idle position has not been particularly prosperous. Obviously, this is not the time to take the back seat, so do some soul searching and ask yourself can we even handle real change?
The comprehensive plan, along with important issues, are now being hammered out and I implore citzens to become more involved in the process, float your ideas, let your sentiments be heard, or windup with a small fashion navigating the future course for all.
I am hardly oblivious to the growth all around us that will inevitably spill over here. This gives us a great opportunity to discuss upzoning pretential properties to increase development intensity in appropriate communities with less impact on infrastructure and limited growth.
The landfill is now the main source of revenue and the forecast for its longevity is not encouraging without raising new revenue. Higher taxes will be introduces that could have an enormous effect on long term residents holding on to inherited properties.
Remember, you have stock in Charles City and your opinions matter.
