Maddox recognized for achievements
Dr. Yvonne T. Maddox, a native of New Kent and deputy director of Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Chiled Health and Humand Development (NICHD), has been awarded the Department of Health and Human Services 2013 Career Achievement Award.
Maddox, a graduate of Virginia Union University and Georgetown University, received the honor for contributions related to women and children’s health. Among contributions include the national “Safe to Sleep” education program, as well as spearheading the establishment of the first national Down Syndrome registry to assist families, researchers, and health care providers.
Maddox also has been recognized with the Presidential Meritorious Executive and Distinguished Executive Rank awards and holds several honorary degrees.
