Certified CPR instructors Steve Traverso and Shannon Daniels (above, at right) lead a group of 50 students through life-saving CPR steps using mannequins during the Live Smart program on April 24. The program, sponsored by New Kent Educational Foundation, New Kent Fire and Rescue, New Kent Sheriff's Office, and Central Virginia CPR Council, provided a life-saving training course, as well as honored first responders and lifesavers who saved the life of Janna Apple, a sophomore at the school last October. Along with the CPR course, students partook in activities that included examining life-saving vehicles, participating games while being impaired, and the dangers of driving while texting through a virtual simulator, as demonstrated by high school student Alex Kessler (below).
