Cathy Pitts is first to carry the torch as the New Kent contingent in today's (Friday) annual Virginia Law Enforcement Special Olympics Torch Run begin to make their way across the county on Route 60 from the James City County line at Lanexa to the Henrico County line at Bottoms Bridge. Cathy leads a group of runners from New Kent schools, New Kent Sheriff's Office, and other volunteers after James City runners handed off the torch. Three hours later, the New Kent runners completed the run, passing the torch to Henrico runners for the final leg of the relay to the University of Richmond's football stadium for the Special Olympics opening ceremonies.
