Lindsey, a former New Kent Middle School teacher, loss her battle to cancer at the age of 31.

The third annual Sarah’s Memorial Golf Tournament will be held on Friday, Sept. 26 at the Club of Viniterra in memory of former New Kent student and middle school teacher Sarah Lindsey.

The tournament is organized to raise scholarship funds in memory of Lindsey, who taught at New Kent Middle School from 2004-2007. In 2010, she was diagnosed with adrenal cancer. Lindsey battled, but ultimately lost her life on Nov. 6, 2011 at the age of 31.

Students and friends of Lindsey united in an effort to keep her memory alive, as well as raise funds for a scholarship in her honor. A golf tournament was created in 2012 and yielded success. More than $50,000 toward a scholarship endowment at William & Mary, Lindsey’s college alma mater, was garnered and brought awareness to the community over the first two tournaments.

This year’s tournament entry fee is $400 per team which includes green/cart fees, goody bags, box lunch, and a barbecue dinner. Prizes will also be available.

Registration opens at 11:30 a.m. with a 1 p.m. shotgun start. Sponsorships are available for the event, and donations of any amount are accepted towards the scholarship. For more information, contact Patrick Evelyn at 512-8150 or by email at pevelyn@verizon.net.
