Letter to the editor: Says RMU ordinance is focused on one district
At the September 10 joint work session between Charles City County’s Board of Supervisors and Planning Commission, a decision was made for work to continue on creating the Residential Mix Use Ordinance that includes the R-1 zoning buffer which allows a dwelling unit to be constructed on approximately 1/2 acre lots if served by central water and sewer. It was by the unanimous decision of the entire Board of Supervisors, Planning Commission and staff that the work should continue on the series of RMU Ordinances: 1, 2, and 3 with accompanying maps.
The main focus of the discussion was implementing RMU-1 (Adkins Store District) with little mention about the other areas under consideration for similar rezoning. The unsuccessful rezoning of a parcel on Holly Tree Lane in 2008 was under contention and appears to be directly related to legislative intent of this ordinance.
I implore the community to voice your concerns to the Board of Supervisors who are in full support of this idea as it will substantially reduce the minimum lot size for constructing dwelling units without respect to the needed infrastructure to support growth and community support.
