Letter to the editor: Thanks NK citizens for fundraising for center

We take this opportunity to give a heartfelt THANK YOU to the community for supporting Proclaiming Grace Outreach for the past seven years. In 2014, we served on average 67 families at each of our Food Pantry openings. We gave away nearly 80,000 pounds of food! This food comes from our partnership with the Central Virginia Food Bank in Richmond as well as local food drives and community support.

If you like a good deal or have been in need, you likely have heard of the Thrift Spot, operating on Saturdays 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 18457 New Kent Highway in Barhamsville. The Thrift Spot has been totally sustained on donations from the community for its five-year existence. The Thrift Spot also opens by appointment for those in need.

We were able to repair the homes for five different families in 2014, ranging from floor repairs to handicapped ramps. These repairs/additions have greatly changed the recipient’s lives.

We have the greatest volunteers! Proclaiming Grace Outreach wants to thank our “partners” including 16 different churches as well as Rockahock Campground. This is a community based organization and without our volunteers we simply would not be able to do what we do to help those in need.

Last but not least, the community support really came through in our first Building Fund Challenge which culminated in a January Polar Plunge, generating $30,000 toward our Jenna Grace King Outreach Center.

In closing, we thank you for making it possible for us to continue to touch the lives of many who are struggling in this economy. As a community we can all work together to make a real difference in combatting hunger and need in this area. Many thanks to you all!
