Poole honored with service award from Virginia’s DCR
Danette Poole, a resident of Providence Forge, has been recognized by the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation with its Distinguished Service Award from the Society of Outdoor Recreation Professionals (SORP).
The award is presented annually to individuals who’ve made significant contributions to the outdoor recreation profession.
“Throughout her career, Danette has shown an unparalleled commitment to the great outdoors by planning and facilitating public use of Virginia’s cherished landscapes,” said SORP President Sergio Capozzi.
Poole is the director of planning and recreation resources for the Department of Conservation and Recreation. She has worked in the agency since 1976 and has managed several program areas including outdoor recreation grants, state park site selection and master planning, state trails, and capital construction.
Poole was presented the award in April in Annapolis, Md., specifically recognizing her for producing the 2013 Virginia Outdoors Plan, the state’s five-year comprehensive plan for outdoor recreation and land conservation.
