Remembering Sept. 11 in New Kent

Above, two apparatuses hold the American flag high above New Kent Courthouse as police officers, firefighters, and emergency medical crews from New Kent and neighboring West Point salute it during the Sept. 11 remembrance ceremony on Friday morning. The service continues to be an ongoing remembrance of those who tragically lost their lives in New York, Washington D.C., and Pennsylvania in 2001. Speakers at the event include New Kent Sheriff F.W. "Wakie" Howard Jr., Chief Deputy J. Joseph McLaughin Jr., New Kent Fire Chief Rick Opett, and 97th District Delegate Chris Peace. Below, a bagpiper from Henrico County Sheriff's Office plays "Amazing Grace" to honor fallen firefighters and medical response team members who paid the ultimate price saving others on that day 14 years ago.Andre' Jones photos
