Letter to the Editor: Says New Kent Sheriff’s Office needs change
I write today to support Charles Gardner who is seeking the elected position of sheriff of New Kent County. I also have concerns regarding the current workings in the New Kent County Sheriff’s Office.
I want citizens of New Kent to know about the unethical practices of this public office. There is an intolerable amount of nepotism, favoritism, and unprofessionalism being practiced in the current administration. Our family was touched personally with actions unbecoming to a publicly funding professional department that is suppose to be structured to serve all citizens. Our family has seen first hand the negativity that permeates the current sheriff’s office. The unethical practices of a select few and the unfounded allegations and disparaging remarks made in public by county employees.
I have lived in New Kent for most of my life my father sat on the county’s Board of Supervisors, as well as active in local community organizations. I raised my children in New Kent and I am fiercely proud of each of my sons. And as I start a new chapter in my life, as a grandmother, I am more concerned about the safety and protection of the citizens of New Kent. I also want to know that the county funds for equipment is being spend or the good of the county.
It is time for a change in New Kent. It is time for a more transparent sheriff’s office that is accountable to the citizens. Charles Gardner is the person to make New Kent a safer community for everyone!
