Letter to the Editor: Supports move of New Kent library to Maidstone development
As a concerned citizen, parent, teacher, and volunteer in the community, I want to see our community move forward with the relocation of the New Kent-Charles City County library.
Charles City has begun discussions of having a library in their own county. New Kent needs to move forward with the proposal on the table to have the library in the central location of the Maidstone development. The location of the building is key! It is close to three of the county’s four schools, it has more adequate parking than the current location, it is very visible to the community from Route 249, and it only needs modifications to be done in order to open.
The Board of Supervisors should be looking at the win-win that this will be for the county. It will give folks looking to move here another reason to move to New Kent. This is not just a one-sided discussion. The library needs to also come up with fundraising to have some stake in the location.
Please speak up if you want to have a library in New Kent.
