Letter to the Editor: Says policy on campaign signs in CC needs to be followed by all

Recently, Charles City’s board of supervisors amended the county policy concerning political activity by employees. The policy serves to “ensure and to maintain employee’s individual rights free from interference or solicitation by fellow employees, supervisors, or officials.” Among other things, the policy prohibits the use of any county resource or equipment for political activities.

While attending the last meeting of the board of supervisors during normal working hours, one member of the board parked his truck with a large campaign sign affixed to it in the county parking lot where it was plainly visible to employees and members of the public. There is also a large campaign banner urging re-election of the three board members on county property at the intersection of Route 5 and Wilcox Neck Road.

Do members of the board think the policy applies to others but not to themselves?
