Letter to the Editor: Says Chalmers’ actions warrant election as New Kent supervisor
Local elections are an important facet of our political process. They provide the citizens the opportunity to select representatives to speak and act on our individual and collective behalf. I am asking my friends and neighbors to write-in Jack Chalmers for District 5 Supervisor in New Kent.
When citizens of Lanexa lost a house to fire, it was determined it was time for a local fire-rescue station. In early 2010, Jack and other concerned citizens took action, establishing Lanexa Station 4 Auxiliary and elected Jack as its director. In the span of 10 months and under his leadership, the auxiliary raised $100,000 and built a fire-rescue station.
Jack has relentlessly fought for 24-7 manpower at all four New Kent fire-rescue stations. When citizens call 911 for medical or fire assistance, there should be local response time. They should not wait for James City County to respond. Jack believes the county should be caring for all of its citizens. Assuring the vital coverage is the first step.
Jack believes a supervisor’s first priority should be the safety and security of New Kent citizens. He is committed to make it number one if elected. A vote for Jack as District 5 supervisor is a vote for “We the People.” I humbly ask all District 5 residents to write-in Jack Chalmers on Nov. 3.
