Letter to the Editor: Says McLaughlin works well with Quinton Volunteer Fire/EMS
During the past 16 years that I have served in the fire service, I have traveled throughout various states including the Commonwealth of Virginia. I have sat in classes with various law enforcement agencies and have worked alongside them during the time.
When I moved to New Kent over three years ago, I started to hear comments made about New Kent Sheriff’s Office wherever I went. Every comment was made in admiration of the office. Through the leadership of Sheriff F.W. “Wakie” Howard Jr. and Chief Deputy J. Joe McLaughlin Jr., they have built an agency of respect and admiration and a safe place to come home too that very few places achieve.
The past two years I have had the pleasure serving as chief of Quinton Volunteer Fire and EMS. During this time, Sheriff Howard and Chief McLaughlin have shown tremendous support to myself, the officers of QVFE, and to the members. There has not been a time where Chief McLaughlin has not answered his phone when we called. He has provided guidance and direction at all hours of the day. He has also offered numerous times resources necessary to help us serve our community.
Chief Deputy McLaughlin has leadership traits that are difficult to find. He has a passion to help those in need, no matter the personal cost to him. He has a drive to succeed in everything that he does and he strives for excellence. He cares about the sheriff’s office, men and women who serve in it, and all citizens of New Kent County.
I look forward to working with Chief McLaughlin for many years to come. Thank you Sheriff Howard for your dedication and service. Good luck to Chief Deputy Joe McLaughlin.
