In order to vote in the Nov. 3 general/special election, citizens are to be registered no later than Tuesday, Oct. 13, 5 p.m. at the General Registrar’s office, located at 10900 Courthouse Road. Hunter Rudolph, a 2015 graduate of New Kent High School, is the recipient of the Bottom of the bridge LaSertoma scholarship. Rudolph received a $1,500 scholarship from the organization. He also received an additional $1,000 check from Lasertoma International as one of ten high school graduates selected from a pool of applicants. Rudolph is attending Thomas Nelson Community College this fall and is planning to major in business administration.
Chase Williams, a senior at New Kent High School, is the recipient of a $500 scholarship from the Chifford H. “Ted” Rees Jr. Scholarship Foundation. Williams was awarded the scholarship as a result of being the statewide winner of the SkillsUSA Championships in the HVACR category at the SkillsUSA National Leadership and Skills Conference. Williams participated in the national SkillsUSA National Championships July 22-26 with more than 6,000 other career and technical students from the secondary and post-secondary level.
United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has announced that $2.5 million in grants are now available for projects to educate new and underserved farmers about more than 20 Farm Service Agency (FSA) programs that can provide financial, disaster, or technical assistance in the agricultural community. Grants will be awarded to nonprofits and public higher education institutions that develop proposals to improve farmer education on topics such as financial training, record keeping, property inheritance, and more.
