This is an open letter to Senators Mark Warner and Tim Kaine, and Congressman Dave Brat: Please, I beg of you do not support the Iran nuclear deal. Iran has been instrumental in the deaths of many of our military. They are behind the support of the terrorism in the world. They pledge the destruction of Israel and death to America. They are holding Americans hostage. We get nothing out of this but maybe 10, 15 years before they go nuclear (assuming they even observe the agreement). Heritage Public Library celebrates National Library Card month

Heritage Public Library is promoting September as “Library Card Sign-up month.” The library joins in with the American Library Association and other public libraries nationwide to promote the event. Studies show that children who use the library perform better in school. Heritage Public Library has a variety of programs to associate with reading. Programs include tutoring, story times, STEAM oriented workshops, Paws to Read, and teen programming. Chickahominy Tribe celebrates with 64th annual pow-wow Sept. 26-27

The Chickahominy Indian Tribe will join Native American friends and visitors from all over the country when they gather for the 64th annual Chickahominy Fall Festival and Pow-wow on Saturday, Sept. 26 and Sunday, Sept. 27 at the Chickahominy Tribal Grounds, located at 8200 Lott Cary Road, Providence Forge, VA, in Charles City. Grounds will open at 10 a.m. on Saturday with grand entry commencing at 12 p.m., and will re-open on Sunday 11 a.m. with grand entry beginning at 1 p.m. The festival/Pow-Wow will feature Native American dancers, drummers, singers, and cultural demonstrations. Charles City High School JROTC presents colors at Washington Redskins game

Charles City County High School’s Army JROTC “Panther” Battalion once again received the pleasure of presenting the national colors during pre-game ceremonies at FEDEX Field in Landover, MD, as part of the Washington Redskins versus Detroit Lions preseason NFL contest. The Washington Redskins organization granted the opportunity for the Charles City JROTC during the Aug. 20 preseason game in front of 80,000 spectators. Started as a tradition in 1997, this is the sixth time the organization has posted colors for the Washington Redskins. Charles City High School’s JROTC is the only unit to ever receive this honor. Fary scholarships awarded to two Quinton residents

Julia Charis Kinder, a recent graduate of Maggie L. Walker Governor’s School, and Halie Marisa Maass, a graduating member of New Kent High School’s class of 2015, are recipients of the Thomas Peterson and Alvin Jenettie Roane Fary Memorial Scholarship fund. Each young lady has been awarded a four-year, $24,000 scholarship through the fund. The scholarship is available to students from 16 counties in eastern Virginia. Halie is currently attending Old Dominion University in Norfolk. She is the daughter of Laura Luck and Bruce Maass Jr. and currently resides in Quinton. Program to offer free vision and hearing screenings for pre-K and daycare facilities

MEDARVA Healthcare has announced the launching of a mobile vision and hearing program to promote kindergarten readiness in the greater Richmond area. MEDARVA Pre-K vision and hearing screening will provide free state-of-the-art screenings to children who are getting ready to enter kindergarten. The program will offer comprehensive vision and hearing screenings to area preschools and daycares five days a week. New Kent County daycares and preschool classes are available for this service. Preschools and daycares can schedule free screenings by contacting Nallibe Mehfoud-Ward, director of MEDARVA Pre-K Vision and Hearing Screening program, by emailing pre-k@medarva.com or call 804-545-0294.
