New Kent County Fair will relocate to New Kent High School for 2015 due to the closing of the Colonial Downs race track. The fair is scheduled for Aug. 14-16, with the Miss New Kent County Fair pageant to be held on Aug. 13, 7 p.m. inside the high school auditorium. Entries for exhibits are asked to be brought between 3-8 p.m. to the high school’s main entrance. Vendors and food vendors are currently being accepted for the fair. Carleigh Colley, a resident of Lanexa located in eastern New Kent County, was among 718 graduates from Union University in Jackson,Tennessee. Colley graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing. Graduation ceremonies were held on May 16. Union University is the oldest institution affiliated with the Southern Baptist Convention.
Joseph Gregory Ganaden Giffin, a 2011 graduate of New Kent High School, graduated from the United States Military Academy on Saturday, May 23 in West Point, New York. Giffin completed his studies with a degree in systems engineering. He was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army within the Infantry branch and will be stationed at Fort Irwin, California. Giffin is the son of James Giffin and P. Jane Giffin of Quinton.
The marriage of Miss Sherika Latoya Jones, daughter of Michael Jones of Charles City, Virginia and Darlene Jones of Richmond, Virginia, to Russell Harris Jr., son of Gwendolyn Harris of Charles City, Virginia and Bernard Adkins of Charles City, Virginia, took place on Sunday, May 24, 2015 at Union Baptist Church in Charles City. The bride is the granddaughter of Barbara Jones of Charles City, and Rena Washington of Ashland, Virginia.
