Antonio Harris, a 2014 graduate of Charles City High School, has completed his first year at North Carolina A&T University, making the Dean’s List for both the Fall 2014 and Spring 2015 semesters. Eligibility for the list is based on a minimum course load of 12 hours and a grade-point average of 3.0 or higher. Antonio is the son of Tony and Regina Harris.
At the last Board of Supervisors meeting, the President of New Kent Stagehands asked the board to allow the group to manage and use the stage at the Historical School. This dedicated group of community theater performers have performed for New Kent residents in adult and children’s plays, murder mystery dinner theaters, sang at the county fair, performed at historical events, and participate in holiday activities. Andrew Berkley, a junior majoring in business administration from Lanexa, and Albert FitzPatrick, a sophomore majoring in business administration from Quinton, have been named to Bridgewater College’s Dean’s List for the spring semester. In order to be named to the list, a student must have obtained a grade-point average of 3.4 or better during the 15-week semester.
Two New Kent County residents were part of a class of 34 students to earn associate’s degrees in nursing from Rappahannock Community College. Trisha Holden and Kerry Watkins were among those recognized during a pinning ceremony on May 8 at RCC’s Warsaw Campus. The ceremony recognized graduating students for their achievement. Each read messages of thanks as they received their pins. Students recited the Nurse’s Pledge, which was followed by a reception at Cobham Park Baptist Church.
Danette Poole, a resident of Providence Forge, has been recognized by the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation with its Distinguished Service Award from the Society of Outdoor Recreation Professionals (SORP). The award is presented annually to individuals who’ve made significant contributions to the outdoor recreation profession. “Throughout her career, Danette has shown an unparalleled commitment to the great outdoors by planning and facilitating public use of Virginia’s cherished landscapes,” said SORP President Sergio Capozzi. Let me start by saying that I like to see people having fun, especially on a beautiful day like Saturday was. To that end, I had hoped that all the bikers this weekend would capitalize on the recently opened bike trail that stretches along Route 5 between Williamsburg and Richmond.
