As my first child entered kindergarten this year, I started to help with the PTO (Parent Teacher Organization). In helping with the Box Tops program, I was surprised to learn that they expire. I had been saving them for a few years but had not really looked at them. I had to throw many in the trash! New Kent Stagehands will begin its spring session on Monday, Feb. 2, when it hosts its annual general meeting inside the New Kent Middle School auditorium at 7 p.m. The group plans to produce “The Calico Tiger” by Christian B. Garrison in April and is looking for residents to participate. The group plans performances on Apr. 25 (3 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.) and Apr. 26 (3 p.m.) at the middle school. Arts Alive will host the fiery violin and guitar duo of Alex DuPue and Miguel De Hoyos on Saturday, Feb. 7, 7 p.m. at the Robinson/Olsson Civic Auditorium in West Point. Individually, the two have entertained audiences around the world. DuPue performed at Carnegie Hall at the age of 14 and toured with rock guitarist Steve Vai, while De Hoyos has performed in front of Mexican government officials and the Romanian government.
