Letter to the Editor: Supports Holmes for New Kent treasurer

By Community Member | October 24, 2015 10:41 am

Having worked in New Kent for 30-plus years, I find Norma Holmes to be an excellent, honest, polite and knowledgeable treasurer. I, as well as my company, supports Norma Holmes. As the old saying goes, “If it’s not broke, don’t fix it.” I hope each of you will get out and vote for Norma Holmes on Nov. 3. Jackie Yates New Kent

Letter to the Editor: Says Chalmers’ actions warrant election as New Kent supervisor

By Community Member | October 24, 2015 10:30 am

Local elections are an important facet of our political process. They provide the citizens the opportunity to select representatives to speak and act on our individual and collective behalf. I am asking my friends and neighbors to write-in Jack Chalmers for District 5 Supervisor in New Kent. When citizens of Lanexa lost a house to fire, it was determined it was time for a local fire-rescue station. In early 2010, Jack and other concerned citizens took action, establishing Lanexa Station 4 Auxiliary and elected Jack as its director. In the span of 10 months and under his leadership, the auxiliary…

Letter to the Editor: Supports Chalmers as District 5 supervisor in New Kent

By Community Member | October 24, 2015 10:21 am

We are writing to say we support Jack Chalmers as a write-in candidate for District 5 supervisor in New Kent. We have known Jack for about 15 years. He is an honorable and ethical person. Jack believes in taking care of his neighbors and has proven this when he helped residents of Chickahominy Shores, Colonial Harbor Marina, and Turners Neck. We had problems for years with Fanny’s Creek flooding and closing South Waterside Drive. Jack worked with county officials, our supervisor, and VDOT to get the road raised above flood level. He also visited the site, noting new guardrail had…

Letter to the Editor: Says New Kent offices are fine the way they are

By Community Member | October 23, 2015 11:43 am

I have seen plenty of signs advertising new contestants for the upcoming elections in New Kent. My wife and I moved to New Kent over 10 years ago. We were attracted by the safe and peaceful county, by decent property values, and a great countryside. I believe New Kent has a bright future, great schools, and the most favorable environment to raise a family. I also believe that our current elected county offices, especially law enforcement, are doing a great job in keeping it that way. Many families try to settle in New Kent for these exact reasons. New Kent…

Letter to the Editor: Gardner’s professionalism will lead New Kent as Sheriff

By Community Member | October 23, 2015 11:35 am

As a former deputy with New Kent Sheriff’s Office, I support a change in leadership by supporting Charles Gardner for sheriff. I am a sworn officer with 18 years of experience in criminal investigations, budget management, hiring, training, and a certified instructor. Due to my experience, I believe Charles has the leadership skills and integrity to move New Kent Sheriff’s Office into the future. In the position of sheriff, you must possess the ability to communicate principles and choose the right people with a variety of strengths to compensate for each other’s weaknesses. You are building a team, not a…

Letter to the Editor: Says McLaughlin will continue to lead as sheriff

By Community Member | October 21, 2015 11:11 am

I offer my full support for Joe McLaughlin Jr., candidate for New Kent County Sheriff. I have worked with Joe and the sheriff’s office for over 20 years and can speak directly about his experience, dedication, and commitment, not only to the sheriff’s office, but to the citizens of this county. I was involved in a bad accident last October while on duty and Joe was the first supervisor to arrive on scene and assist me. Not only did he follow the squad to the hospital, he remained there comforting my mother, two teenage daughters, and other family members while…
