Honoring African-American patriots

African American patriots who served in the Revolutionary War were honored during a Feb. 21 ceremony at Elam Baptist Church in Charles City. A monument was engraved in 2008 with the names of 26 African Americans who were identified as Revolutionary War Patriots by the Sons of the American Revolution (SAR). Judith Ledbetter was the guest speaker during the service with representatives from SAR and DAR in attendace. Pictured are (l to r) Don Swain (past President, Williamsburg Chapter SAR), Rev.
