Science fair swept by fourth graders

Synchronicity seemed evident as fourth graders swept the best in show trophies during the fourth annual New Kent Elementary School science fair. Above, overall winner Lydia Woodall (right) gleams as her project entitled "The Effect of the Shape of Lenses on Paths of Light" garnered her first place recognition. Accompanying her are runner-up Sarah Miller (center) and third place finisher Serena Herring (left). Other winners are: Third grade- 1. Josephine Voelker, 2. Scarlette Voelker 3. Jordan Lilley. Fifth grade- 1. Campbell Proffitt, 2. Serra Swartout 3. Haley Johnston. Below, John Allison of Virginia Tech Cooperative Extension allow kids to touch and feel different types of sediment and soil.
