Arts Alive scholarships now available

The Board of Directors of Arts Alive, Inc. is proud to announce the awarding of two scholarships this year.

The first scholarship, the C. Herbert Brown Jr. Performing Arts Scholarship, was established in memory of founder, president, and director C. Herbert Brown Jr., and is designed to help graduating high school seniors from the Arts Alive service areas of the Town of West Point, and the counties of King William, New Kent, and King and Queen who plan to major or minor in the performing arts or music education. The performing arts shall include music (instrumental or voice), dance, or theatre.

The second scholarship is the Andy Conklin Visual Arts Scholarship, presented in honor of founder, president, and director Andy Conklin. This scholarship was established to help graduating high school seniors from the Arts Alive service areas who plan to major or minor in the studio arts, art history, or art education.

Arts Alive, Inc. will award both scholarships in the amount of $1,000 each to students accepted to an accredited college or university for the 2016-17 academic year as a full-time student.

Completed applications and all required information must be received by Arts Alive, Inc. by 5 p.m. on April 29. A recipient of either scholarship is eligible for the Dr. Anne Shirley Carter Olsson scholarship, an additional award of $500 for a second year during their college career if they continue to major or minor in the performing arts or music education or studio arts, art history, or art education
Scholarships will be awarded in May 2016.

Applications are available through area high school guidance counselors or on the Arts Alive website at www.artsaliveinc.org.
