Former New Kent Sheriff to serve as Grand Marshal for county fair

Former New Kent Sheriff F.W. “Wakie” Howard Jr. will serve as the Grand Marshal for the 45th annual New Kent County Fair on Aug. 12-14 at New Kent High School.

Howard will be recognized at 10 a.m. as part of the parade as part of opening ceremonies. Activities for this year include live entertainment, 4-H horse rides, face painting, 5K fair race (Saturday morning) and more. Home and garden exhibits will be on display for all three days.

Home and garden, arts, and crafts exhibits are to be registered on Thursday, Aug. 11, 3-8 p.m. Entries for the Miss New Kent County Fair Pageant must go through an interview on June 15 and July 12 prior to participating in the Aug. 12 pageant. Vendor applications are being accepted until July 31.
