NKBA’s Colgin wins state fishing championship tournament

New Kent Bass Angler’s, consisting of New Kent High School students, recently competed in the 2017 Virginia Bass Federation High School State Championship on June 10-11 on the Chickahominy River.

Team member Tyler Colgin emerged as the state champion in the 16-18 year-old division, netting a total weight of 15 pounds, four ounces in the tournament. Teammates Justin Bostic (3rd), Bryce Henley (5th), and Edward Davis (7th) also finished in the top ten.

In the 11-15 year old division, Joshua Chaffin earned a fifth-place finish while Sterling Woods also ended up in the top ten by placing ninth.

The club has had a strong season so far in the Bass Federation High School Team Trail league. The club has accumulated a first place finish and two runner-up finishes in the season so far. The team has two more competitions remaining.
