Chickahominy Tribe to host 66th annual festival

The Chickahominy Indian Tribe will join Native American friends and visitors from all over the country when they gather for the 66th annual Chickahominy Fall Festival and Pow-wow on Saturday, Sept. 23 and Sunday, Sept. 24 at the Chickahominy Tribal Grounds, located at 8200 Lott Cary Road, Providence Forge, VA, in Charles City.

Grounds will open at 10 a.m. on Saturday with grand entry commencing at 12 p.m., and will re-open on Sunday 11 a.m. with grand entry beginning at 1 p.m.

The festival/Pow-Wow will feature Native American dancers, drummers, singers, and cultural demonstrations. United States Armed Forces Veterans will be honored each day. Vendors will have traditional Native American items for sale that include jewelry, pottery, beadwork, and more from around the United States.

Keith Colston of the Tuscarora/Lumbee tribe will serve as Master of Ceremonies. Host drum is War Paint from North Carolina and Maurice Proctor of the Piscataway Tribe will be the Arena Director. Schirra Gray of the Piscataway will be the Head Male Dancer, Dorothy Gray of the Rappahannock will serve as Head Female Dancer, Keenan Stewart of the Chickahominy will be the Junior Head Male Dancer, and Savanna Adkins of the Chickahominy will be the Junior Head Female Dancer.

The festival is open to the public. Admission is free, but donations will be accepted at the gate. Lawn chairs and blankets are welcome. Pow-Wow etiquette will be followed. No alcohol, drugs, or pets are permitted on the Pow-Wow grounds.
